Common questions
How do I know if my watch needs a movement service?
Most mechanical watches benefit from a service every four to six years. Signs it may be overdue include a noticeable drop in accuracy, a dry or gritty feel when winding, or a watch that stops sooner than expected when fully wound. If you're unsure, bring it in and we'll have a look without any obligation.
What does the accuracy report show?
After a movement service, we measure how many seconds per day the watch gains or loses in six different positions — dial up, dial down, crown up, crown down, crown left, crown right. The results are written on a report you keep. This way you have a concrete record of how your watch performs.
How long does a service typically take?
A movement service generally takes seven to fourteen working days depending on the caliber and how busy the workshop is. Case polishing is typically completed within the same week. Spring bar and gasket replacements are often done while you wait. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when you drop off.
Will polishing change the look of my watch?
We work to preserve the original finish. Polished surfaces stay polished; brushed surfaces stay brushed. We don't convert one to the other unless you specifically ask. Light scratches are reduced, not erased entirely, and we'll tell you honestly what to expect on your particular piece before we start.
What is covered by the 12-month service warranty?
The warranty covers the service work itself. If the movement develops a fault related to our work within 12 months — such as insufficient lubrication or a component we adjusted — we address it at no charge. It does not cover accidental damage, magnetization, or wear that occurs after the service.
Do you work on quartz watches too?
Our movement servicing is focused on mechanical watches — manual-wind and automatic calibers. We do handle spring bar replacements and case polishing on quartz pieces. If you have a quartz watch needing electronic or cell-related work, ask us and we'll advise the best route.
